Yaacov Shilo

Yaacov Shilo was born in 1937 in Gedera

Yaacov Shilo was born in 1937 in the town of Gedera. He attended the municipal high school in Rehovot and was a member of the Maccabi Hatzair youth movement.

He studied at Bezalel from 1958 to 1962. Early on he drew cartoons for Pi Ha'aton, the student magazine of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Shilo trained in the Armored Corps and holds the reserve rank of lieutenant colonel. Many of his drawings show daily life in the corps.

He was the political cartoonist of Davar from 1964 to 1966 and drew and wrote for Bamahane from 1965 to 1972. He illustrated the Armored Corps magazine from 1975 to 1981, then served as house cartoonist of Maariv from 1981 to 2002 and of Makor Rishon from 2003 to 2004. He also illustrated books and illustrated theater reviews for Yedioth Ahronoth.

He now works independently and publishes his work on his own website. He has held solo exhibitions, and 8 of his cartoons are on permanent display at a history museum in Bonn, Germany.
