Yisroel Moshe Friedman

Yisroel Moshe Friedman was born in 1955 in Brooklyn

Friedman was born in Brooklyn to Rabbi Avraham Yaakov Friedman and Tziporah Feiga Friedman. He was named after Rabbi Yisrael Friedman, founder of the Ruzhin dynasty, and Rabbi Moshe Friedman of Boyan-Cracow. His grandfather was then the Sadigura Rebbe.

He studied at Yeshivas Ruzhin and then at the Ponevezh Yeshiva. He received rabbinic ordination from rabbis including Moshe Feinstein, Yitzchak Yaakov Weiss and Shmuel Wosner.

In 1979 he married Sara Feldman and settled in London, where the couple had 10 children. In 1993 he opened the Ohr Yisrael synagogue in Golders Green and led its community. He also served as a rabbinic judge in London.

After his father died in 2013, he became Sadigura Rebbe and moved to Bnei Brak. He joined the Council of Torah Sages of Agudat Yisrael. Under his leadership new synagogues opened in several towns, and his teachings were printed in weekly booklets and books.

He had pancreatic cancer and spent long periods in Los Angeles for treatment. He died in 2020 at Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer. A dispute over his will followed, and 3 of his sons became Rebbes in Jerusalem, London and Bnei Brak.
