Yitzhak Cohen

Yitzhak Cohen was born in 1977 in Israel

Yitzhak "Itzik" Cohen was born in 1977 and grew up in Jerusalem. He holds a degree in government and strategy from the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya and a degree in political science from the University of Haifa.

He enlisted in 1995 and joined the Rotem Battalion of the Givati Brigade, where he later became an officer. In 2002 and 2003 he led a Givati unit in the Gaza Strip during the Second Intifada. He was the brigade's operations officer during Operation Cast Lead and later commanded the Tzabar Battalion and the Givati training base.

As a colonel he commanded the Arava and Judah formations, studied at the National Security College, and commanded the Givati Brigade from 2019 to 2021. As a brigadier general he commanded the Edom Formation and was reprimanded after a shooting on the Israel-Egypt border in which 3 soldiers were killed.

In 2023 he took command of the Steel Formation and led it in the Gaza war. In 2025 he was appointed head of the Operations Directorate and promoted to Aluf. He lives in Negba, is married to Chava and has 4 children.
