Yitzhak Danziger was born in 1916 in Berlin

Danziger was born in Berlin in 1916 to a Jewish Zionist family. His father, Dr. Felix Danziger, was a surgeon who served in the German Army in World War I. In 1923 the family moved to Jerusalem, and in 1930 to Tel Aviv, where his father opened the Danziger hospital.

He studied at the Rehavia Gymnasium, the Herzliya Gymnasium and the Hebrew Reali School in Haifa. From 1934 to 1937 he studied art at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. Visits to the British Museum and its Assyrian, Egyptian and African art shaped his early work.

In 1937 he returned and opened a studio in Tel Aviv. In 1938 and 1939 he made "Nimrod", a sandstone statue of a naked hunter with a bow and a hawk. Its unveiling caused a scandal, with protests from religious circles, and it became an emblem of the Canaanite movement.

He later joined the New Horizons group. His work moved toward space, time and the landscape, drawing on ecology, geography, anthropology and archaeology. He received the Israel Prize for sculpture in 1968 and died in 1977.
