Yizhar Harari was born in 1908 in Jaffa

Yizhar Harari was born in Jaffa in 1908 to Haim and Yehudit Harari. His father, one of the founders of Tel Aviv, was an educator and writer, and his mother was an educator and author. He married Dina, and his son Haim Harari became a physicist.

He studied political science and journalism in Paris and later law, and was certified as a lawyer. In 1933 he worked in London as a journalist for Haaretz.

Before the state was founded he was active in Zionist bodies, including the Zionist Actions Committee. He sat on the Haganah's command and later served in the IDF as a lieutenant colonel.

He served in the Knesset from 1949 to 1974, first for the Progressive Party and then for the Israeli Liberal Party. When his party merged into Gahal, he and 6 other members formed the Independent Liberals. In 1968 he joined the Labor Party and was later elected for the Alignment.

In the first Knesset he chaired the House Committee and proposed the Harari Resolution. It set out that the constitution would be written in chapters, each a separate Basic Law. He died in 1978.
