Yosef Carmon was born in 1933 in Radom

Carmon was born Yosef Korman in Radom, Poland, in 1933 to a family of tanners. His parents and three of his sisters were murdered in Treblinka. He and one sister survived after their parents hid them with non-Jewish neighbors.

In 1946 he came to the Land of Israel with a group of Holocaust orphans. He lived at Kibbutz Degania Bet, where he studied and worked in the chicken coop and the carpentry shop.

He served in the IDF as a combat soldier and performed with an entertainment troupe directed by Yemima Milo. She advised him to go to the Cameri Theatre. After his discharge he joined the Cameri drama studio and studied with Peter Frye.

He acted at the Cameri from 1953 to 1958, then studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He later acted at the Haifa Theatre and the Seasons Theatre, and returned to the Cameri in 1965. There he appeared in about 40 plays, 17 of them by Hanoch Levin, and also directed.

His first film was Not a Word to Morgenstein in 1963, and later films included The Farewell Party in 2014. He was diagnosed with dementia in 2014, retired in 2019 and died in 2022. He was married and had 4 children.
