A boutique hotel of 12 rooms in two joined Ottoman-era mansions in Old Acre, with a 400-year-old hammam and a wine bar in a Crusader cellar
The Efendi is two neighbouring stone mansions of wealthy Acre merchant families, Beit Shukri, known as the Palace, and Beit Afifi, also known as the WIZO house, which were leased in ruins and joined into one hotel of 1,350 square metres between the lighthouse and the alleys of the Old City. Uri Buri, of the fish restaurant nearby, opened it in 2012. Some of its 12 rooms have painted Ottoman ceilings restored by experts and artists brought from Venice, others wooden ceilings about six metres high, and a large balcony on the north side looks over the sea. It has a 400-year-old Turkish hammam and a spa, a wine bar of Israeli wines in a Crusader cellar about 900 years old with remains of a Byzantine building, and a roof that looks from Rosh HaNikra to the Carmel. Breakfast is served to the table rather than as a buffet, and visitors who are not staying can book it.
