23 Smilansky Street, Old City, Beer Sheva

The Kampai group's kosher Thai and Asian restaurant and sushi bar, in an Ottoman-era house on Smilansky Street in Beer Sheva's Old City

Koh Thai is the Thai and Asian restaurant of Beer Sheva's Kampai group, at 23 Smilansky Street in the Old City. By its own account it is in an Ottoman-era house on Smilansky, which it calls the city's legendary nightlife street, and serves kosher Asian food with a large sushi menu, cocktails with Asian flavours and music "that will make you move in your chair". The group runs eight restaurants and bars in the city, Foodis wrote in 2024, and its website names HaSifria, Kampai, KEPASA, Kampai Street Wok, Shifra and Chi-Chi among its brands. It opened Koh Thai on 16 January 2022, after a summer pop-up, mako reported that day, in the space where Kapara had been, as mako wrote in 2025. Its English page says the idea grew out of the group's trips to Thailand and that it opened while the COVID pandemic was raging. Its chef is Dror Shushan, the group's chef, who is also behind the dishes at Kampai. It closed after 7 October 2023 and reopened in 2024 as a kosher restaurant with a new team, Foodis wrote in August 2024, when its manager said the dishes had been made less spicy and lighter on fish sauce. mako wrote in July 2025 that it began as a Thai restaurant and that its menu is now more pan-Asian, with sushi and, in winter, ramen. The menu runs from bao buns, beef momo and chicken wings in Thai herbs to som tam, pad thai, pad krapow and massaman and panang curries, with a long list of special sushi rolls and combinations, a vegan section and a children's menu. Walla's Yael Reif, in a guide of 1 October 2026, called it a kosher family Asian restaurant with large, generous portions, put its pad krapow popiah and crispy wings on her must-order list, and wrote that diners can sit in the room inside or on its balcony. It also takes kosher events of up to 60 guests, with set menus served to the middle of the table. It opens in the evening from Sunday to Thursday and on Saturday night after Shabbat, and delivers and does takeaway through its own ordering page.
