7 HaHorev Street, Eilat

A kosher Moroccan lunch restaurant on a residential street in Eilat, cooking home-style dishes and couscous since 1972

By the account news08 gave on its 50th birthday in January 2022, Lalo began in January 1972 with the cooking of Kochava Sandrusi for her husband Eliyahu, known as Lalo, in a small kiosk in Eilat's Dekel neighbourhood. Demand took it to larger premises. The recipes passed to their son Tzachi, who cooked and ran it through the 2000s and 2010s and moved it to its present air-conditioned room on HaHorev Street, and from Tzachi to Ilan Dimant. On Instagram and Facebook it calls itself "the feisty Moroccan" (מרוקאית עצבנית), and the line on its logo reads "Moroccan cooking, made in Israel". The kitchen is kosher and meat, under the Eilat rabbinate, and it opens at lunchtime, Sunday to Thursday. Couscous, made on the premises every day, is the dish it is known for (in 2006 ROL wrote that about half of all dishes ordered were couscous), beside Moroccan fish, head meat and oxtail with chickpeas, meatballs, stuffed vegetables and a spread of homemade salads. It sits on a residential street away from the hotels and feeds mostly locals: mako's 2024 guide called it a piece of Eilat mythology with the air of a workers' restaurant, and Time Out wrote in 2016 that lunch there is exceptionally busy.

Sources disagree on these hours

These are the hours on its Google listing, as Wanderlog and Restaurant Guru copy it, which has it closed on Friday and Saturday. Its Facebook page, as Restaurant Guru copies it, keeps it open on Thursday until 17:00 and on Friday from 09:00 to 13:00, and d.co.il gives Friday as 12:00 to 15:00, so Friday is not settled. eilat.city, the town's tourism site, gives Sunday to Thursday 12:00 to 17:00, as news08 did in January 2022. No source gives it hours on Saturday night, although Livo's 2026 guide names it among four kosher restaurants that, it says, open after Shabbat ends.
