Ein Gedi Camplodge was set up by two childhood friends who grew up on Kibbutz Ein Gedi, went through school, the army and a trip to Australia together, and came back to live on the kibbutz with their families; their stated aim is hospitality that anyone can afford. Guests sleep in air-conditioned family tents for up to five, in VW vans for couples, in a VIP caravan or in tents of their own, and share designed showers and toilets, cooking areas with fridges and electric hobs, and a large central tent with seating corners, hammocks, a snooker table and table tennis. The bar and restaurant is open every day from 06:00 to 23:00, WiFi is free, and fires, barbecues and poyke pots can be lit in the half-barrels and the campfire area. The lodge is inside the kibbutz, so the view is of the Dead Sea but there is no way down to it from the compound.
