This is the first Shany patisserie, opened on Derekh HaAtzmaut in downtown Haifa in 1964 and still trading there. The chain's site tells the story: a young baker from Austria, Alexander Englander, known as Shany, set out to open a patisserie of European standard, and was joined by the pastry cook Aryeh Abramovich, later the chain's head pastry cook and one of its owners. Shany has since grown to eight branches and a factory at the Check Post, baking yeast cakes, cream cakes, cheesecakes, cookies, quiches and sourdough breads to east European recipes. The downtown shop is open from 06:00, Sunday to Friday.
