A small kosher Japanese restaurant in Herzliya Pituach's business district, with a sushi bar and izakaya dishes led by chef Akki Tamora, a fourth-generation sushi chef from Tokyo

Minato is a kosher Japanese restaurant in Beit Ofek, an office building at 8 HaMenofim Street in the business district of Herzliya Pituach. Its website describes it as combining sushi and izakaya, a Japanese bar that serves a meal of small dishes with good drink. The kitchen is led by chef Akki Tamora, who by the restaurant's account is a fourth-generation sushi chef from Minato, one of Tokyo's 23 wards, where his family's restaurant has been handed down for more than 90 years; he started in the kitchen at 12 under his parents, has lived in Israel for 30 years, is in charge of the menus at the restaurants and at events, and stands behind the bar every evening. Minato means "port" in Japanese. The Jerusalem Post wrote in 2019 that its owners, two Israeli entrepreneurs, also own a similar restaurant in Caesarea, and its website lists a second branch, Minato Caesarea, at the Paz filling station there. The menu runs from miso and noodle soups and harusame salads to tartares, which its lunch menu calls the house signature, beef, salmon and fish seared on an iron pan, gyoza, tempura, nigiri, sashimi and rolls, with a section of rolls of cooked fish it calls pregnancy sushi; dishes are marked vegan, vegetarian or gluten-free. To drink there are sake, umeshu, Japanese whisky and beer, cocktails and wine. It is kosher, meat, under the Herzliya religious council; it is closed on Friday and opens on Saturday an hour and a half after Shabbat ends. On weekdays it serves a business lunch, and it offers a tasting menu for two at 710 shekels. Chanoma, a private room in the wabi-sabi style with its own screen, sound system and toilets, seats up to 30, and the restaurant also caters events and brings a Japanese chef's table to people's homes. In July 2026 mako put it among Israel's 50 best kosher restaurants, writing that for more than 14 years it has kept a rare consistency in a modest, minimalist room. In February 2026 Haaretz's Roni Kashmin wrote that it has insisted for years on modesty and respect for Japanese tradition, and in January 2025 Gloria Deutsch of The Jerusalem Post found it always busy, as on her earlier visits. In 2019 ynet named it among the three most highly regarded kosher Japanese restaurants in Israel.
