Artists' House, 12 Shmuel HaNagid Street, Jerusalem

A chef's bistro in the stone building that first housed the Bezalel art school, with a walled yard, a bar and lunch on Saturday

Mona is a chef's bistro, in its own words, in the Artists' House on Shmuel HaNagid Street in the city centre: a stone building from the end of the 19th century that was the first home of the Bezalel art academy founded by Boris Schatz, as the city's tourism site and Globes describe it. A restaurant called Mona has been there for decades under changing owners. The Machneyuda group bought it in about 2012, with Moshiko Gamlieli as its chef and partner, and in November 2014 sold its share to him; Itamar Navon, then the sous-chef, came in as his partner (Haaretz and mako, 2014). It now belongs to Gamlieli, Navon and Roi Tzabag, whose group is also a partner in Bar 51 and Radler in Tel Aviv, and Globes reported in November 2024 that chef Yehuda Zaken, who started there in 2018, leads the kitchen and had become a partner. Globes also wrote that after the pandemic it put away its white tablecloths for bistro dishes with a chef's touch. The winter 2026 menu runs from Gillardeau oysters and corn agnolotti, a dish it has served from the start, to pork chop in beurre blanc, minute steak and potato gnocchi with blue crab, and a tasting menu costs 295 shekels a person. Guests sit in the old building, at the bar or out in the yard; its booking messages speak of a front yard and an inner courtyard, and Globes described a yard enclosed by walls, a stone floor and a low ceiling. It is open every evening and at midday on Saturday, and Gamlieli told Walla in 2022 that it is fullest at weekends. In 2023 it marked its tenth year with a cookbook, "Four Meals", which it brought back into print in September 2025 with three special dinners for its eleventh year (Haaretz). In 2024 its owners opened a wine bar, Nagid 12, in the building's stone courtyard. Time Out Israel put it sixth of 31 places to eat in Jerusalem in January 2026, Channel 13 named it among the city's five hottest restaurants in April 2026, and Rest's magazine listed it among the fine restaurants open over Sukkot 2026.

Sources disagree on these hours

These are the hours of its Google listing, as Restaurant Guru and Wanderlog copy it on 1 October 2026 and as its Tabit page copied it on 15 September 2026. Its Tabit booking page agrees: it takes tables from 18:30 on Sunday to Wednesday, from 18:00 on Thursday and Friday, and on Saturday from 12:30 to 15:30 and again from 18:30, with no bookings for Friday midday. Rest, updated on 8 June 2026, has it open from 18:30 to 23:00 on Sunday to Thursday, from 18:00 to midnight on Friday, and on Saturday from 12:30 to 16:30 and from 18:00 to midnight, until the last guest leaves. Its Wolt page delivers until 22:00 at the same opening times and not on Friday. Channel 13 printed Friday and Saturday lunches from 12:00 to 16:00 in April 2026; no other current source has it open at midday on Friday.
