1 HaDekel Street, Mahane Yehuda market, Jerusalem

The Machneyuda group's kosher skewer house in the Mahane Yehuda market, with skewers and cuts by weight over charcoal and a table of salads to start

Steakiya opened on 5 November 2025 at 1 HaDekel Street, on the corner of Beit Yaakov Street in the Mahane Yehuda market, in the room where the Machneyuda group had run Tzemach, its vegetarian restaurant, which the group planned to reopen elsewhere. The group's founders, chefs Assaf Granit and Uri Navon, opened it as a pop-up modelled on the market's old skewer houses; Granit told ynet that there were no places like them left in Jerusalem. Walla wrote in January 2026 that it had quickly gone from pop-up to permanent. Chef Kamel Hashlamon, who had run a shawarma place in Abu Ghosh, joined the kitchen at the start and, by ynet's account, was a partner in setting it up. It is kosher, the group's third kosher place after Zhenzheria and Cafe Ramban in the Ramban hotel. A meal starts with a table opening of eleven salads, among them Turkish salad, tahini and fennel, with pitas warmed over the gas flame and chips. Then come the skewers, which the menu calls siach, from chicken livers, hearts and kebab to goose breast, entrecote and sweetbreads; cuts by weight from the ageing fridge, such as prime rib and tomahawk; and small dishes such as Jerusalem artichoke sambusak, siska cigars, kubbeh nabulsiya and bone marrow baked on dough in the taboon, with specials on a board. The menu is printed on the placemats, the skewers come on oval stainless-steel plates, the music is loud, and there are seats at a bar facing the kitchen. Midweek evenings fill with families and groups of friends (ynet), and on Thursday evenings people who come without a booking wait at the door (Walla). Haaretz's critic Sagi Cohen headlined his review that it was much more than another place to open in Jerusalem, it was an event; Walla put it first among its ten best restaurants of December 2025; and mako wrote in July 2026 that it started the trend of skewer houses. Groups of 12 or more from Sunday to Wednesday, and of 10 or more on Thursday and Friday, can book a private event with a set menu. The light rail's Mahane Yehuda stop is about 75 metres away.
