Halil Albala opened Halil in 1983 on Kehilat Detroit Street, the lane of Arab and Middle Eastern restaurants beside the market; the town's tourism site says that on Saturdays the centre of Ramla's food moves there. The kitchen makes masabacha, ful and green and white tahini, and the grill does lamb, liver, hearts, chops, steaks, chicken thighs and kebabs. ynet's 2017 guide wrote that it is known above all for its hummus, and listed a plate of masabacha with a boiled egg, olives and chopped salad at 22 shekels. In May 2025 Maariv's Nir Kipnis took the train to Ramla market and began his visit at Hummus Halil.
