Herzl 16 is a café, bar and live-music venue that Ruti Broudo and her team opened in January 2018, after Rothschild 12 closed at the end of 2017. A few steps from busy Herzl Street, through a European-style arcade, guests come into the inner courtyard of a building from 1921, with café tables in its shady corners and, rising the length of the building, the iron frame of the first lift in Tel Aviv, which gave the house its name, Beit HaMa'alit. At the far end of the courtyard is the bar room, with a stage on one side and a long bar on the other, and a second courtyard behind it. It serves an Asian lunch and dinner, and live shows and sets by the city's DJs are a regular part of its nights.
