Shishko is a food bar for lovers of drink and simple, tasty food, with a menu drawn from the Balkan kitchen. It opened in 2010 behind the Great Synagogue on Allenby Street and moved in June 2024 to 48 HaKovshim Street, on the edge of the Carmel Market and the Yemenite Quarter, a short walk from the sea. Its site names its mezze: fire-charred aubergine salad, a tzatziki that takes three days to make, spinach and cheese cigars, grandma Lily's leek patties, and a kebab made every day from a recipe passed down four generations in the owners' family. On Fridays and Saturdays it serves a drunks' brunch, with trays of chasers sent out on the house.
