6 Auerbach Street (the Drisco hotel), Tel Aviv-Yafo

A chef restaurant on the ground floor of the Drisco, a hotel of 1866 in Jaffa's American Colony, with a modern Israeli menu and a list of some 250 wines

George & John is the restaurant of the Drisco, a hotel in the American Colony on the seam between Tel Aviv and Jaffa, and takes its name, by its own account, from the brothers George and John Drisco, who opened the Jerusalem Hotel here in 1866 and with it the first restaurant outside Jaffa's walls. Conservators restored the building between 2010 and 2018, when the hotel and the restaurant reopened; Walla notes that 2026 is the building's 160th year, and the cocktail list has one called 160 Years in a Glass. The restaurant calls its menu modern Israeli, made from local, seasonal produce with broad Mediterranean influences, and keeps some 250 wines. Guests sit in a dining room that mako described in 2025 with a gleaming marble floor, white tablecloths and a bar fit for Paris or London, in the garden, or in a private room for up to 24 in what was the old hotel's wine and liquor store. Under chef Tomer Tal it was ninth on MENA's 50 Best Restaurants in 2022, sixth and the best in Israel in 2023, and twentieth in 2024. Tal announced in September 2024 that he was leaving, and Elad Dagan and Tal Suchami, who closed their restaurant Mansoura to take over, stayed less than a year. In November 2025 the kitchen passed to Yaron Fishniak, 27, who had been Tal's sous chef and who, Calcalist reported in April 2026, started out washing dishes at a shawarma stand in Rishon LeZion. He kept the crab pasta and cut the prices: Time Out put the old bill at 700 to 800 shekels a person, and Walla wrote in January 2026 that it now prices like an ordinary Tel Aviv restaurant, with a dinner for two at 560 shekels. Haaretz's critic Sagi Cohen headlined his review of November 2025 that George & John was an excellent restaurant again, Walla's Yaniv Granot put it seventh among the ten restaurants in Israel most worth going to in January 2026, and Time Out listed it first, in the lowest of three price bands, among its 26 fine-dining restaurants in Tel Aviv in June 2026. Breakfast is served every morning, and on Friday and Saturday it is open to everyone from 10:30 to 12:30. The hotel, owned by Avi Zak, has been a member of Relais & Châteaux since 2023, and the light rail's Elifelet stop is about 170 metres away.

The times are breakfast and dinner, as its website's Hebrew pages give them; its Google listing, as the copy in its Tabit record of 27 September 2026 shows it, gives the same. On Friday and Saturday breakfast is for hotel guests from 08:00 and open to everyone from 10:30 to 12:30, and its booking page adds that Friday breakfast is served until 13:00. Its English pages still close dinner at 21:00 from Sunday to Friday.
