Thai House is a Thai restaurant at 8 Bograshov Street, on the corner of Ben Yehuda Street in the centre of Tel Aviv, and it marked 30 years in 2026. By its own account Yariv Melili landed by chance on Khao San Road at the end of the 1980s and then lived for two years in a village in Isan, herding buffalo and cows and working on a fishing boat. He told ynet in 2016 that he met Lek in Thailand while working as a fisherman on Koh Phangan, came home with her and their baby daughter for his sister's wedding, and that the couple sold spring rolls to delis and ran a sandwich bar near Dizengoff Center before opening the restaurant in the spring of 1996. When the cooks they hired did not cook the way he wanted, Lek went into the kitchen, and for years the two worked twelve-hour days, seven days a week; Time Out's fine-dining list of June 2026 names her as the chef. The menu runs from som tam, Isan sausages, grilled meats and raw or cured fish to whole sea bass, coconut-milk curries and noodles, with separate vegetarian and vegan and gluten-free menus. By its own account it grows Thai eggplant, kaphrao basil, morning glory and Chinese broccoli on a private farm, presses its coconut milk from fresh shavings, keeps a menu in Thai, and will cook Thai dishes that are not on the menu when asked ahead. Israel Hayom described two inner rooms, a covered courtyard and a bar, all full at a midweek lunch, and Time Out wrote in June 2026 that a table there is never easy to find but worth insisting on. The business lunch, a starter and a main for the price of the main, runs from Sunday to Thursday, and in December 2025 Israel Hayom's Yael Laor headlined that in another 30 years it would still be the best business lunch in the country. Khua Khun Lek, a private room set apart from the dining rooms, is named, as Time Out explains, for Mrs Lek's kitchen, and seats up to 20 around one table. Mako's ranking of Israel's best restaurants put Thai House first in 2022 and eleventh in 2024, Israel's restaurant industry conference gave Yariv and Lek Melili its culinary institution award in March 2024, and mako reported that the Ontopo booking site counted it among the five most popular restaurants of 2025. The same company runs Kab Kem, a Thai bar and restaurant on Lincoln Street that opened in 2017.
