Basar BaMidbar is the Arava branch of Ashtarot Farm, and its shop in the artists' village compound sells beef, lamb and free-range chicken raised naturally: cuts, steaks, beef sausages, lamb ribs, kebabs and burgers, along with wine, local beer, and date arak, gin and brandy from the Arava distillery. Beside the shop, on Thursdays and Fridays during opening hours, a grill bar serves skewers, steaks, meat sandwiches, house pickles, smoked potato and chips. Ashtarot's site says its beef comes from herds grazing on the Golan, more than 70% grass-fed, its lamb carries a healthy-livestock quality mark and its chicken is organic and free-range, and it delivers to the Central Arava communities with pickup in Sapir or Tzukim by arrangement.
