Alfred Neumann was born in 1900 in Vienna

Alfred Neumann was born in Vienna in 1900 to Siegmund Neumann and Hermina Hickl. In 1910 the family moved to Brno, where his father worked in a joinery workshop. He served in the Austro-Hungarian Army during World War I.

He studied architecture in Brno and then in Vienna under Peter Behrens. He worked in Paris and Berlin, including with Auguste Perret, and in 1928 and 1929 he worked in Algiers.

In February 1945 he was deported from Prague to Theresienstadt. After World War II he returned to Brno and worked at a state planning institute in Czechoslovakia.

He immigrated to Israel in 1949 and taught at the Technion, where he served as dean of the architecture faculty. In 1959 he opened an office with his former students Zvi Hecker and Eldar Sharon. Their works include Bat Yam City Hall and the Mechanical Engineering building at the Technion.

In late 1966 he resigned from the Technion after it changed his building design, and a court rejected his lawsuit over the changes. From 1965 he was in Canada, overseeing a master's program in architecture at Université Laval in Quebec. He married Naomi in 1962 and died of lung cancer in 1968.
