Amihay Eshed was born in 1967 in Herzliya

Amihay Eshed was born in 1967 in Herzliya to Holocaust survivors from Poland. He served as a combat soldier in the Givati Brigade and later worked guarding aircraft and embassies. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in Middle East history.

He joined the police in 1990 as a detective and intelligence officer in Tayibe. He later headed the central unit of the Sharon area and commanded the Lod, Rishon LeZion and Netanya stations. In 2013 he became a brigadier general and head of the senior police officers college, and in 2016 deputy commander of the Jerusalem District.

In 2018 he was promoted to major general and named commander of the Central District, and in 2021 he took command of the Tel Aviv District. His stated policy was to allow protests and protect demonstrators. In March 2023, during protests against the judicial reform, Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Commissioner Kobi Shabtai announced his transfer, a step the attorney general ordered frozen.

In July 2023 he announced his retirement from the police. After retiring he criticized Ben Gvir and Commissioner Danny Levi, and in 2026 he filed a defamation suit against the Israel Police. He volunteers in Naftali Bennett's party and lives in Kfar Saba with his wife Tzipi.
