Amir Abulafia was born in 1968 in Tiberias

Amir Abulafia was born on May 13, 1968, and grew up in Tiberias. He went to school in Bat Yam and studied electronics at the Ort Melton school. In high school he was active in the student council.

He joined the IDF in September 1986 and served in the Nahal Brigade, rising from platoon commander to commander of the brigade recon unit. He later commanded Battalion 906, founded the Nahal recon battalion, and led the Shaldag unit and the Binyamin Brigade. In 2010 he took command of the Nahal Brigade.

In 2012 he became a Brigadier General and commanded the Idan Formation, and later the Steel Formation. In 2017 he was promoted to Major General and headed the Planning Directorate until 2020. He went on leave before discharge in October 2020.

In 2022 Defense Minister Benny Gantz named him head of the selection committee for the next Army Radio commander. In 2023 he led the inquiry into the Tyre disaster, and in 2024 he headed a panel reviewing the Shin Bet's conduct around the October 7 massacre. He lives in Modi'in, is married with 3 children, and holds a master's degree in political science from the University of Haifa.
