After his army service, he earned a BA in psychology and cinema and television from Tel Aviv University in 1993. He completed an MA in 1996 and a PhD in communication science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1999.
He taught at Max Stern Yezreel Valley College from 2000 to 2009 and then at Ariel University. His research looks at how sexual and violent television content shapes viewers' views of reality. Ariel University fired him in 2014 after his comments about women who described sexual assaults.
