Amnon Abramovich was born in 1951 in Nir Am

Abramovich was born in 1951 in Kibbutz Nir Am. His parents were among the kibbutz founders. As a child he moved with his family to Kiryat Ata.

He enlisted in the IDF in 1969 and served in the Armored Corps. In the Yom Kippur War he was a reserve tank driver and was badly burned near the Suez Canal. He received the Chief of Staff Medal and went through about 60 surgeries.

He began law studies at Tel Aviv University in 1972. After his recovery he finished them and interned in criminal and civil law. He received his law license in 1978.

He wrote for student papers and later for Al HaMishmar and Monitin. From 1981 he worked at Maariv as a political reporter, London correspondent and commentator, and he helped expose the Kav 300 affair. He left in 1994 over a wiretapping affair and became a commentator on Channel One.

Since 2003 he has been a commentator on Channel 12 news and a panelist on Ulpan Shishi. In 2006 he reported President Moshe Katsav's complaint to the attorney general, which led to an indictment. His views are identified with the Israeli left, and his 2005 remark about protecting Ariel Sharon drew criticism.
