Gabi Gazit was born Gabriel Greenstein in Sereď, Czechoslovakia, in 1947. In 1949 he moved to Israel with his family. He grew up in a religious family in Kfar Yehoshua, a moshav in the Jezreel Valley.
He served in an armored reconnaissance unit of the IDF. He was badly wounded in the Six-Day War when his jeep hit a land mine.
He began his media work on the radio at Kol Israel and hosted the midday current affairs show "Yesh Inyan" from late 1982. In 1988 he moved to television, and from late 1990 he hosted the late night show "HaLayla", which moved with him to Channel 2 in 1993. He hosted "HaBoker" from 1997 to 2001 and later returned to Kol Israel, where he resigned in 2007.
He then hosted his own program on Radio Lelo Hafsaka, often dealing with government corruption and with the rights of the public. Some of his remarks drew public criticism, and in 2010 the station was fined over his words about the Haredi public.
In 2017 several women said he had kissed them against their will, and he denied the claims. He suspended himself, the station ended his program, and he moved to Bangkok. He returned to Israel in 2019 and said he had retired from the media.
