Dan Chamizer

Dan Chamizer was born in 1947 in Jerusalem

Dan Chamizer was born in Jerusalem in 1947 and grew up in Ramat Gan. His father, Emmanuel Chamizer, was killed in the battle for Nitzanim. His grandfather was the physician and sculptor Raphael Chamizer.

He served as a helicopter pilot in the army. After his discharge he flew for Arkia Airlines and was among the pioneers of micro-aviation in Israel. In 1978 he completed an MA in Social Sciences at Tel Aviv University, with a thesis on pilot error.

He wrote newspaper columns, presented on Galei Tsahal and hosted television shows. With Zeev Aner he produced hundreds of nationwide treasure hunts. On the Reshet Bet show "Hakol Diburim" he ran a daily riddle based on imagination and association.

He later produced television quiz shows and returned to radio in 2004 with "Chamizer Sentence". His surname entered Hebrew slang as a verb for solving hard riddles.

He developed a method of teaching through riddles used in Israeli schools and built a national riddle archive with the Kibbutzim College and the Teachers' Union. He is also an environmental activist and conceptual artist, and lives in Ein Hod.
