Dana Olmert

Dana Olmert was born in 1972 in Jerusalem

Dana Olmert was born in Jerusalem to Aliza and Ehud Olmert. She studied literature at the Hebrew University Secondary School in Jerusalem.

She served in the IDF Intelligence Corps. At the Hebrew University of Jerusalem she wrote a master's thesis on space and sexuality in the early work of Brenner, supervised by Dan Miron. Her PhD there dealt with Hebrew poetry by women in the 1920s from psychoanalytic and feminist views, and during this research she found a short play by the poet Rachel.

Olmert teaches literature at Tel Aviv University. She edited a contemporary prose series for Hakibbutz Hameuchad and books by writers such as Dalia Ravikovitch, and was named editor of a debut series at Ahuzat Bayit. In 2009 she won the Bahat Prize for her book on the first Hebrew women poets, and in 2016 she co-founded a writing consultancy for authors.

She has been active in Machsom Watch and Black Laundry and in the LGBT community. In June 2006 she joined a protest outside the home of Chief of Staff Dan Halutz over a Gaza incident in which civilians were killed, which drew criticism from right-wing figures. She is raising children with her former partner, Dafna Ben-Zvi.
