Deror Ṿainberg was born in 1964 in Kfar Saba
Weinberg was born in Kfar Saba to Uriel and Bat-Sheva. As a small child, he lost his mother's two brothers in the Six-Day War. He attended a state-religious school in his hometown and was a member and guide in Bnei Akiva.
For high school he studied at the Noam school in Pardes Hanna and then at a yeshiva high school in Jerusalem. Later he earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science and Middle Eastern studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
He joined the IDF in 1983 and served in Sayeret Matkal, then moved to the Paratroopers. He commanded Battalion 890 and the Maglan unit, and led forces in Lebanon. His last post was commander of the Judea Brigade, and he was chosen to command the Paratroopers Brigade shortly before his death.
He opposed the IDF withdrawal from Hebron under the Judea First plan. On November 15, 2002, he rushed to an attack on the Worshippers' Route in Hebron and was shot dead, one of 12 people killed. He was buried in Kfar Saba beside his uncles and left a wife and children, and several places and projects bear his name.
