Dov Frohman was born in 1939 in Amsterdam

Frohman was born in Amsterdam in 1939 to Polish Jewish parents. During the Nazi occupation he was hidden by a Christian farming family, and his parents were murdered in the Holocaust. He moved to Israel in 1949 and grew up with relatives in Tel Aviv.

After army service in the Golani Brigade, he studied electrical engineering at the Technion and graduated in 1963. He earned a master's degree in 1965 and a Ph.D. in 1969 at the University of California, Berkeley.

He worked at Fairchild Semiconductor and joined Intel in 1969. In 1970 he developed the EPROM, a memory chip that keeps its data without power and can be erased and reprogrammed. He later taught in Kumasi, Ghana, and at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

In 1974 he helped Intel open a design center in Haifa, its first outside the United States. He became general manager of Intel Israel and kept it open during the 1991 Gulf War. In 1995 he led the effort to build a second plant in Kiryat Gat.

He retired from Intel in 2000. He wrote the book Leadership the Hard Way, published in English in 2008 and in Hebrew in 2009.
