Dov Indig was born in 1951 in Romania

Dov Indig was born in Romania in 1951 to Miriam and Avraham Yehezkel Indig. In 1959 he moved to Israel with his parents.

He went to primary school at a Talmud Torah in Jerusalem and skipped 2 grades. He attended the Bnei Akiva yeshiva Netiv Meir for high school and won the yeshiva prize. He led religious youth activities and enjoyed photography.

He studied at the Kerem B'Yavneh hesder yeshiva and joined the Armored Corps in July 1970. He served as a tank crew member alongside Haim Sabato. He was killed in battle on the Golan Heights on 7 October 1973 and buried at Har HaMenuchot.

For over 2 years before the war he exchanged letters on faith and Judaism with a secular girl from a northern kibbutz. The letters were published in 2005 as "Letters to Talia", edited by his friend Hagai Ben Artzi. His death also forms the background of Haim Sabato's book "Adjusting Sights".

A square in Jerusalem's Givat Shaul and a synagogue in Ma'ale Shomron bear his name. In 2007 a synagogue in Bucharest was renamed in his memory, and a ZAKA unit was named for him and Yoni Netanyahu.
