Ehud Hrushovski was born in 1959
Ehud Hrushovski was born on 30 September 1959. His father, Benjamin Harshav, was a literary scholar, translator and Yiddish poet who taught at Yale University and Tel Aviv University. His mother is the psychoanalyst Rena Moses Hrushovski.
He earned his PhD at the University of California, Berkeley in 1986, under Leo Harrington. His thesis dealt with stable model theory.
He taught mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology until 1994, then became a professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 2017 he moved to the University of Oxford as Merton Professor of Mathematical Logic. In 2025 he moved to the Weizmann Institute of Science.
His work is in geometric model theory. He found counterexamples to a conjecture of Boris Zilber, and his method became known as Hrushovski constructions. In 1996 he proved the geometric Mordell-Lang conjecture using model theory.
