Ehud Shani

Ehud Shani was born in 1957 in Haifa

Ehud Shani was born in Haifa in 1957. He studied at the military boarding school beside the Reali School in Haifa. He later earned a bachelor's degree in economics and social science and a master's degree from Bar-Ilan University.

He joined the Armored Corps in 1975 and became an officer. During the 1982 Lebanon War he took command of his battalion after its commander was wounded. He later commanded brigades, served as a liaison in the United States from 1991, and became chief armor officer in 2000.

In 2003 he was promoted to major general and named head of the Teleprocessing Directorate. In 2005 he led a committee that reviewed the policy of demolishing attackers' homes, and the government adopted its recommendations. He left the army in 2007.

In 2010 Defense Minister Ehud Barak appointed him director general of the Ministry of Defense, a post he held until 2013. In 2012 the State Comptroller found that he had acted against proper administration in several defense deals. In 2015 he became chairman of the Yad LaShiryon association, and he has served on several company boards.
