Eli Atun was born on May 12, 1964, and grew up in Nitzanei Oz. He went to Ami Assaf elementary school in Burgata and to Ruppin high school.
He was drafted into the IDF in 1982 and served in the Artillery Corps.
In Nitzanei Oz he chaired the sports committee and served on the local committee, which he chaired from 2008 to 2013. From 2013 to 2018 he was a member of the Lev HaSharon Regional Council plenum. In the 2024 election he was chosen as council head with about 47.3% of the vote.
Atun owns Eliston, a company that supplies marble and stone. He is married to Orit, and they have 3 daughters and a son.
