Eyal Gelman

Eyal Gelman was born in 1982 in Kiryat Arba

Eyal Meir Gelman was born in Kiryat Arba in 1982 to David and Sarah. In high school he studied at the yeshiva high schools of Mitzpe Yericho, Dimona and Haspin.

He began his army service in a pilot course, but left it and moved to the Givati reconnaissance unit. He later served in the reserves in various roles and reached the rank of lieutenant colonel.

After his discharge he worked as the security officer of the Kiryat Arba council, and held the post when Hallel Ariel was murdered in her home there. He then studied at a yeshiva for one year and was appointed director general of the settlement of Elazar.

In elections held on 20 September 2022 he was chosen to head the Hebron Municipal Committee, the local authority for the Jewish part of Hebron. The committee was set up by military order in 2017.

Gelman lives in Hebron. He is married to Chaya, sister of Benaya Sharel, and they have 8 children. His brother Eliav Gelman fell fighting in an attack at the Gush Etzion junction.
