Gideon Taran

Gideon Taran was born in 1953 in Haifa

Gideon Taran was born in Haifa on August 9, 1953. He studied at the Hebrew Reali School in Haifa from first to twelfth grade and was active in the Scouts movement.

He joined the Armored Corps in 1971 and fought in the Yom Kippur War as an officer cadet. After his discharge he joined Kibbutz Dovrat and ran its cotton branch. In 1983 he completed degrees in geography and the history of the Land of Israel at the University of Haifa.

He taught and managed the middle school at Emek Hama'aravi High School in Yifat. In 1989 he returned to the IDF to command the Moran unit and later the Alon education school. He commanded the Kela David formation in 1996 and 1997 and served last as deputy commander of an armored division.

In 2002 he became principal of the Reali School's upper division, and later its deputy director for pedagogy until 2013, where he led the Ma'arag program. In 2013 he founded Liba, a company for pedagogical processes. He headed the teaching unit at Safed Academic College from 2015 to 2021.

Since 2024 he has been pedagogical director of the Rakafot Hehalutz program. He held assemblage exhibitions in 2024 and 2025 and published a book in 2024. He lives in Atzmon.
