Michael Zandberg was born on April 16, 1980, in Ramat Gan, where he grew up. As a child he first played basketball, then friends persuaded him to switch to football. He attended Blich High School and played for its football team. His sister is the politician Tamar Zandberg.

In 1997 he joined the youth team of Hapoel Petah Tikva and later moved up to the senior squad. He played there until 2002. Financial problems led the club to transfer him to Maccabi Haifa that summer.

With Maccabi Haifa he played in the UEFA Champions League group stage, won a Toto Cup and won three league titles in a row. In 2006 he moved to Beitar Jerusalem and won the league in his first season there. He was named Israeli Footballer of the Year in 2007.

He later played for Hapoel Tel Aviv, Bnei Yehuda, Maccabi Petah Tikva and Hapoel Haifa. In 2012 he joined Hapoel Ramat Gan, his boyhood club. He retired in 2018, then returned in 2020 to play for Hamakthesh Givatayim.
