Mohammed Miari was born in 1939 in Al-Birwa

Miari was born in 1939 in al-Birwa, a village emptied during the War of Independence. He grew up in Makr and went to high school in Kafr Yasif. He belonged to the Arab Youth Pioneer movement.

He studied law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and became a lawyer. As a student he was active in Arab student politics. He helped found the al-Ard movement and was third on the Socialist List, which was barred from the 1965 elections.

In 1984 he co-founded the Progressive List for Peace and entered the Knesset. The party was first banned from the 1988 elections, but the Supreme Court reversed the ban, and he was re-elected. He lost his seat in 1992 when the party fell below the threshold.

While he served, there were attempts to lift his parliamentary immunity, and these did not stand. One concerned his presence at a memorial event, and the Supreme Court cancelled that decision.

He later joined Balad and held a symbolic last place on its list. He left over the party's stance on the Syrian Civil War and helped lead a breakaway movement called Kapah.
