Mordechai Kedar was born in 1952 in Tel Aviv

Kedar was born in Tel Aviv in 1952. His parents came from Poland in the 1930s, and their families were killed in the Holocaust. His first language was Yiddish, and he attended religious state schools in Tel Aviv.

He joined the IDF in 1970 and served about 25 years in Military Intelligence, mostly in Unit 8200. He left as a lieutenant colonel. From 1974 to 1982 he sang tenor in the Tel Aviv Philharmonic Choir, where he met his wife.

He studied Arabic and political science at Bar-Ilan University. His doctoral thesis dealt with the public political language of the Assad regime in Syria. He later lectured at Bar-Ilan and published a book on the Syrian press in 2005.

Kedar appears on Arabic television channels such as Al Jazeera and writes newspaper columns. He promotes a plan for 8 Palestinian emirates based on local clans. Some of his statements drew criticism, and after a 2019 speech on the Rabin murder, Bar-Ilan ruled that he would not represent the university at official events.

In 2021 he became vice president of the media company NEWSRAEL. He is married with 3 sons and 2 daughters and lives in Raanana.
