Mordehai Milgrom was born in 1946 in Iași

Mordehai "Moti" Milgrom was born in 1946 in Iași, Romania.

He earned a B.Sc. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1966. He then studied at the Weizmann Institute of Science and finished his doctorate in 1972.

Before 1980 his work focused on high-energy astrophysics, including a kinematical model of the star system SS 433. He spent the academic years 1980-1981 and 1985-1986 at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Work on his new idea began in 1981, and in 1983 he proposed modified Newtonian dynamics as an alternative to dark matter.

The theory holds that Newton's law of gravitation should change at very small accelerations. He is a professor in the department of Particle Physics and Astrophysics at the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot. He is married and has 3 daughters.
