Yoseph Imry was born in 1939 in Tel Aviv
Yoseph Imry was born in Tel Aviv in 1939 and grew up there. His father, Avraham Imry, was born in Poland and taught mathematics and physics at a high school. His mother, Hina Falkovitz, was born in Ukraine and taught English and French.
He studied at Balfour school and Ironi Alef high school in Tel Aviv. As an army academic reservist, he earned a master's degree in physics at the Hebrew University in 1961. He completed his doctorate at the Weizmann Institute in 1966 under Israel Pelah.
He began his military service as an armor officer. He then worked as a physics researcher at the Soreq Nuclear Research Center from 1962 to 1967.
After postdoctoral work at Cornell University, he joined Tel Aviv University in 1969 and became a full professor in 1977. In 1986 he became a professor at the Weizmann Institute, where he led research centers and initiated the Braun Center for Submicron Research in 1990. His work covered phase transitions, disordered systems and the random field model, and he wrote the textbook Introduction to Mesoscopic Physics.
He became professor emeritus in 2007. He was married to Tsila, and they had 2 daughters. He lived in Tel Aviv and died in 2018.
