Moshe Peled was born Moshe Eisenberg in Ein Ganim, now part of Petah Tikva. His parents, Zalman and Shoshana Eisenberg, were pioneers and farmers. His maternal grandparents, Baruch and Rachel Golomb, were public figures in Petah Tikva.
He joined the Haganah in 1939 and served as a messenger and later a squad leader. In the War of Independence he commanded a platoon and a company in the Golani Brigade and was wounded twice. He led the brigade jeep company in Operation Uvda toward Umm Rashrash, later Eilat, and then left the army to farm in Nahalal.
In 1958 he returned to the IDF at the request of Haim Bar-Lev and became an instructor of armored company commanders. He later commanded Tank Battalion 52, Brigade 8 and Brigade 14, and was deputy commander of Division 36 in the Six-Day War. He headed the Command and Staff College and then took command of Division 146.
In the Yom Kippur War his division joined the counterattack in the southern Golan Heights on October 8, 1973. In April 1974 he became commander of the Armored Corps as a major general and worked to rebuild the corps and update its combat doctrine. He left the IDF in January 1979.
From 1987 to 1992 he was CEO of Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. From 1986 to 2000 he headed Yad La-Shiryon, the Armored Corps memorial and museum at Latrun. He died in 2000.
