Ofer Levy was born in 1964 in Kiryat Ata
Levy was born in Kiryat Ata to Hannah and Mordechai, the seventh of 9 children. He first sang before an audience at 5 and a half. At 12 he moved to Kibbutz Eilon, and years later he returned home to help his father, who faced financial trouble.
At 17 he was in a car accident near Haifa in which his brother Yitzhak was killed. In 1982 he joined the IDF and served in the Golani Brigade in the 1982 Lebanon War. In a 2025 interview, he said he had been violent toward prisoners during the war.
After the army he sang in Haifa clubs as Ferdi, after the Turkish singer Ferdi Tayfur. His first album, Ha'Kalfan, came out in 1988, and albums such as Kochav Shnot Ha'tishim and Ohev Lihyot followed. In 1994 his duet with Lea Lupatin on Naomi Shemer's song Hakol Patuach became a hit.
In the late 1990s Levy became religiously observant and stopped performing at mixed events. In 2002 he released an album of religious songs, then took a break. He returned with Metzayer Otach in 2005 and later recorded duets with Eyal Golan, Ishay Levi and Eden Ben Zaken.
