Ofir Shoham

Ofir Shoham is a former IDF brigadier general in the reserves who headed Maf'at, the Defense Ministry's Directorate of Defense Research and Development, from 2010 to 2016.

Ofir Shoham was born in 1963

Ofir Shoham was born in 1963. He joined the IDF in 1980 and graduated from the second cycle of the Talpiot program. Within it he earned a BA in mathematics and applied physics, and he later completed an MA in applied physics.

From 1989 to 1993 he went through an operational track in the Israeli Navy, including a captain's course, and commanded the warship INS Atzmaut. He then headed several Navy branches in detection, optronics and electronic warfare. In 1997 he became head of the electronic systems and electronic warfare unit at Maf'at as a colonel, and in 2000 he took over the Navy's budget and economics department.

In June 2002 he was promoted to brigadier general and named assistant head of the Planning Division. From 2005 to 2010 he commanded the Lotem Unit in the Computer Service Directorate. He headed Maf'at from March 2010 until June 2016.

In civilian life he works in venture capital investment. He is married and has 3 children.
