Uri Alon was born in 1969 in Tel Aviv

Uri Alon was born on March 16, 1969, in Tel Aviv.

During his army service in the Talpiot program he completed a bachelor's degree in physics and mathematics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1989. He earned a master's degree there in 1992. In 1996 he completed a Ph.D. in theoretical physics at the Weizmann Institute of Science, supervised by David Mukamel, and received a Rothschild Fellowship.

His interest turned to biology, and he did postdoctoral work in experimental biology at Princeton University. In 2000 he returned to the Weizmann Institute as a senior scientist, and he became a full professor in 2008. His research combines molecular biology with the physics of complex systems.

Alon studies gene regulatory networks and generalized the term network motif in 2002. In 2006 he published the book An Introduction to Systems Biology. He also wrote guides for scientists on choosing research problems and gave popular talks on giving good lectures.

In 2020 he became a member of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities. In 2021 he was appointed visiting professor of bioengineering at Stanford University.
