Pierre Rehov was born in 1952 in Algiers
Rehov was born in 1952 in Algiers to a Jewish family, when Algeria was a French department. As a child, his school was the target of an attack by the FLN. In 1961 his family left Algeria for France as the Algerian War was ending.
He has said he became active after seeing the death of Muhammad al-Durrah on television in 2000, which he doubted. He then began making documentaries, including The Road to Jenin, about the 2002 battle of Jenin, made in response to the film Jenin, Jenin. Other films include The Silent Exodus, about Jewish refugees from Arab countries, and Hostages of Hatred, about Palestinian refugees.
He uses a pen name, explaining that he fears attacks because of his films. In January 2008 he was embedded with a US cavalry unit in Iraq, filming material for The Path to Darkness. He also writes novels, including the counter-terrorism thriller Cellules Blanches, and writes for outlets such as Le Figaro and The Jerusalem Post.
In 2008 he moved to the United States, citing rising antisemitism in Europe, and in November 2011 he moved to Tel Aviv. He is married to Sharon Yambem, an immigrant to Israel from India. He has 2 children from a previous marriage and a third child born in 2022.
