Ronen Bergman was born in 1972 in Kiryat Bialik

Ronen Bergman was born in 1972 and grew up in Kiryat Bialik, the youngest of 3 children. His mother Miriam was a teacher and his father Shmuel an accountant, and both were Holocaust survivors born in Poland. As a teenager he worked as a young reporter for television and for local papers.

He served in the intelligence unit of the Military Police Corps. He then studied law at the University of Haifa and was admitted to the Israel Bar. At Cambridge he earned a master's degree in international relations and, in 2007, a PhD in history on Israel's security ties with Africa.

He wrote for HaOlam HaZeh and Haaretz, and since 2000 he has written for the 7 Days supplement of Yedioth Ahronoth. His reports exposed affairs such as failures at the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute and Yasser Arafat's secret bank account. He also worked for years on the Egyptian source he called Babylon, later known to be Ashraf Marwan.

From 2005 to 2011 he co-hosted the program Erev Hadash on Educational Television. In 2018 he joined The New York Times as a staff writer and published Rise and Kill First. He was part of the team that won the 2024 Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting on the Gaza war.
