Inge Deutschkron was born in 1922 in Finsterwalde

Deutschkron was born in Finsterwalde in 1922 to Ella and Martin Deutschkron. Her father, a Jewish secondary school teacher, moved the family to Berlin in 1927. The Nazi regime fired him, and he fled to Britain, leaving his wife and daughter in Berlin.

From 1941 to 1943 she worked in Otto Weidt's brush workshop, which employed mainly deaf and blind workers. With his help she avoided deportation. From January 1943 she lived illegally in Berlin, hiding with her mother.

In 1946 she and her mother moved to London, where she studied foreign languages and worked as a secretary for the Socialist International. She traveled in Asia from 1954 and returned to Germany in 1955, working in Bonn as a freelance journalist.

Maariv hired her as a correspondent in 1958, and she covered the Frankfurt Auschwitz trials from 1963. She became an Israeli citizen in 1966 and moved to Tel Aviv in 1972. Until 1988 she was an editor at Maariv for international and Middle East politics.

Her 1978 autobiography was staged by the Grips-Theater in Berlin in 1988. She worked as a freelance writer in Tel Aviv and Berlin, spoke in schools about the Holocaust and worked to honor those who rescued Jews. She settled in Berlin in 2001 and died in 2022.
