Ronni Gamzu

Ronni Gamzu was born in 1966 in Israel

Ronni Gamzu was born on 27 January 1966 and grew up in Holon. His parents immigrated to Israel from Iran. His father worked in the jewelry trade, and his mother was a kindergarten assistant.

He served in the IDF from 1985 to 1988, where a medic course led him to medicine. He studied medicine at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and Tel Aviv University from 1988 to 1994. At Tel Aviv University he later earned a PhD in fertility research, a degree in health systems management, an MBA and a law degree.

He trained in gynecology and obstetrics at Lis Maternity Hospital from 1997 to 2002. He then held management roles at Ichilov Hospital. In May 2010 he became director general of the Ministry of Health, a period that included a doctors' strike and a financial crisis at Hadassah.

In September 2015 he became director of Ichilov Hospital. In July 2020 he was appointed national coordinator for the fight against the coronavirus, and in September 2020 the government approved a lockdown on his recommendation. He returned to Ichilov in November 2020.

He left Ichilov in 2024. In November 2024 he became board chairman of Migdal Insurance and Financial Holdings and of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
