Saria Yaya Ofer was born in 1952 in Haifa

Saria Ofer was born in Haifa on January 28, 1952, to Hava and David Ofer, who later became a commander in the Israel Police. He grew up in Jerusalem, studied at the Rehavia Gymnasium and was active in the Scouts. His older brother Yitzhak, a fighter pilot, was killed in the Yom Kippur War.

He joined the IDF in 1970 and volunteered for the Haruv reconnaissance unit. After the Yom Kippur War he left the army following his brother's death and worked as a farmer. He returned in 1979, helped found the Shaldag Unit, commanded the Shaked Battalion and became deputy commander of the Givati Brigade, retiring as a colonel.

In 1988 he founded the fuel company D.G.S., and in 1998 he opened the Brosh HaBika resort in the northern Jordan Valley. The resort closed after the Second Intifada began in 2000, and his businesses fell into debt. He was tried for tax offenses in 2003 and acquitted on the majority of the charges, and in 2008 he was convicted of obstruction of justice and witness tampering.

He married Esther Klein in 1973, and they had 5 children before divorcing in 2010. He later married Monique and lived with her at Brosh HaBika. On the night of October 10 to 11, 2013, he was killed outside his home by 2 Palestinian attackers, who were caught 2 days later.
